Charles Shepherd (fl. 1858–1878) was an English photographer and printer who worked in India during the latter half of the 19th century. His photographic subjects included both soldiers and civilians, representing a cross-section of English and indigenous life.
In 1862, Shepherd partnered with Arthur Robertson to establish a photographic studio in Agra called Shepherd & Robertson. The firm relocated to Simla in 1864, where Samuel Bourne joined as the principal photographer. Around this time, the studio rebranded as Howard, Shepherd & Bourne, but after Howard's departure, the firm became Bourne & Shepherd in 1868. The business expanded, opening a second branch in Calcutta (now Kolkata), where they operated a successful portrait studio, with their photographs widely distributed across India and Britain through agents and wholesale distributors.
Though Bourne returned to England in 1870, the firm continued under the name Bourne & Shepherd, with Colin Murray taking over as head photographer in 1872. Shepherd, who had primarily worked as the firm's printer, left Bourne & Shepherd in 1885. Despite his departure, the firm remains active today in Kolkata.
