For an alabastron with a similar slightly flattened base in the same material, incorrectly described as 'Zwarte graniert - Granit noir', see Eric Gubel, et al, Van Nijl tot Schelde - du Nil a l'Escaut (Brussels, 1991), pp.214-5, no.264. This example, like ours, is without a neck, and it's quite possible this was deliberate, either never made, or separately made and now lost.
